Cracked Nail Polish || A Story of Passion

This is a perfect picture of who I am. I am not a perfect picture. I am on the run. My work is hands-on. I paint my nails so I feel like a woman who has time. Time to take care of herself, even if it’s for 10 minutes. But the sight of the cracked nail polish reminds me that I live to help others. This is not a burden by any means. It’s something I love. Something I’m passionate about. My nails may look sloppy to the common eye, but to me…it’s a reminder of who I am. I am a busy, working woman who cares more about others than myself.

It’s amazing how such a little thing can remind us of something so big. Recently, I was talking with a fellow photographer friend about passion and how we lose sight of it so quickly amidst the busyness of life. He wrote a blog about it here. I’ve been thinking about our conversation for the last few days. I used to be passionate about so many “things.” Music, drawing, writing… as I’ve gotten older, my passions have changed. Not to say the old ones don’t exist anymore, they just aren’t as important. People are my passion now. Their passions light the fire for mine. I love talking with people and hearing about what is truly important in their lives. Working for an organization that helps others after disasters has really put passion and priorities into perspective for me. The things that really matter aren’t “things” or hobbies. They are people and relationships. Support systems and encouragement.

Cracked nail polish. It reminds me of what really matters.
